Open Call for National Talent Programme for Contemporary Circus 2026-2027

Dance South-East Norway has since 2023 included contemporary circus as part of the centre’s activity. The Norwegian Circus field is flourishing and has great potential for growth. At the same time the field is still categorized by a very fragmented infrastructure. Dance South-East Norway contemporary circus activity is aimed at both artistic development and strengthening the art form’s infrastructure. 

We are delighted to announce our open call for participants for the National Talent Programme for Contemporary Circus. The programme is a direct part of our contemporary circus development, and is supported by Talent Norge and Sparebankstiftelsen DNB. 

The National Programme for Contemporary Circus is directed at cirkus makers, and aims to strengthen the artists’ proficiency and skill in developing stage performances. The programmes’ core is development and production of projects/performances, with a focus on dramaturgy, direction and choreography as well as collaboration with artistic contributors such as light design and scenography. Furthermore, the programme aims to strenghten the participants carreer through national and international networking as well as mentoring in how to develop a sustainable career.   

The programme is aimed at contemporary circus makers who have a professional education or can document sufficient professional work as an artist over a minimum three year period.  

The programme is open for up to 8 participants. Both individual artists and groups/collectives are eligible to apply. Participants will receive a programme grant as well as support/resources for the various programme activity . The National Talent Programme for Contemporary Circus is a means to strenghten contemporary circus in Norway, and applicants must demonstrate a connection to the Norwegian circus field.

Dance South-East Norway (DSN) is a centre for professional contemporary dance and circus. DSN is one of Norways most active co-producing and presenting venues with a significant level of international collaborations and presence. DSN is operated by Bærum Kulturhus, and focuses on artistic development, production, programming and dissemination. The centres activity unfolds in the intersection between professional artists, presenters and audiences. Through this, we continue to build a comprehensive structure that enhances the conditions for the creation, performance, experience of and participation in physical performing arts.
