Dansefot presents In C by Shasha walts & Guests

When DanseFOT marks its 10th anniversary, the audience is invited to a very special performance in Bærum Kulturhus. Here, young talents from DanseFOT share the stage with professional dancers from Nagelhus Schia Productions in In C – the renowned work of internationally renowned choreographer Sasha Waltz.

For 10 years, Bærum Municipality, on behalf of Akershus County Municipality, has run the regional talent development program DanseFOT. Through targeted work, the program has established itself as a professionally strong and important offer for young dancers in the region. Many former students have gone on to secondary dance courses and higher education in Norway and internationally. Several are now working as professional performers, and some have also returned to the professional field through NSP 2.

The collaboration between DanseFOT and Guro Nagelhus Schia started already in the first year of the program.

Back then, in partnership with Bærum Kulturhus and the regional competence center for dance. When Nagelhus Schia Productions was established in Sandvika in 2018, the collaboration continued – and today stands stronger than ever. The anniversary performance is a clear result of a long-term commitment to young artists and artistic quality.

Through several weeks of rehearsals, young and professional dancers have explored and shaped their own version of the material together. The result is a living, dynamic and ever-changing performance – where the meeting between generations, experience and talent creates something completely unique.

DanseFOT's 10th anniversary not only marks everything that has been achieved, but also the ambition to continue developing young talents and creating strong artistic experiences in the years to come.

About the performance:

For five weeks, the young and professional dancers have collaborated on the 53 choreographic figures, developing their own interpretation of the structured but playful improvisation.

In C is based on a piece of music from 1964 with the same name composed by Terry Riley. Riley's masterpiece is an open composition, revolutionary in its time, and generally considered to be the first piece of minimalist music. The composer himself called In C a democratic piece of music because it gives great freedom to the individual musicians in the ensemble. Sasha Waltz has transferred the same concept to the dance, creating 53 movement phrases for use in a structured improvisation with clear rules.

Sasha Waltz is a German choreographer, dancer and director. She studied dance and choreography in Amsterdam and New York. Together with Jochen Sandig, she founded the dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests in 1993 and the venue Sophiensæle in 1996. From 2000-2004 she was part of the artistic director of Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz and 2019-2020 artistic director of the State Ballet Berlin together with Johannes Öhman. In her current choreographic work, Waltz has a particular focus on interdisciplinary collaborative processes, such as choreography and music in synchronous development.  Sasha Waltz was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2011 and the French Order of Arts and Literature in 2021.
